The Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2006 include new arrangements for the monitoring of the management, usage and other aspects of controlled drugs.


A key element of these arrangements is the appointment of a CD Accountable Officer to whom pharmacists must report incidents involving controlled drugs. This has been clearly summarised within the Fact Sheet on controlled drugs issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain which states:
Standard operating procedures must be put in place detailing who should be alerted if complications with controlled drugs arise. There must also be systems in place to report untoward incidents involving the management and use of controlled drugs and to alert the accountable officer of any concerns or complaints involving the management and use of controlled drugs.

In Sheffield the Accountable Officer is Peter Magirr, Head of Medicines Management at the PCT. Reports of incidents should be sent to Peter by post (marked: Private & Confidential) or emailed, details below:
